Buying Contact Lenses & Glasses Online

This is a subject close to my heart, basically because I'm as blind as a bat. On this page is a quick run down of some of the sites where you can now buy contacts and glasses directly.

You should only buy online if you have a stable prescription or have had your prescription checked recently, if you haven't had your eyes tested recently go along and have them done. Remember that you do not have to get your glasses or contacts from where you have your eyes done, you can ask for the prescription and get them from anywhere.

When buying online carefully check the deals on offer, especially when dealing with sites abroad. Many offer a discounted price that includes a manufacturer rebate, if the is a company is in the US for example will you need to get your rebate from there and will it come in US Dollars and will they even send it to the UK? This doesn't mean you shouldn't buy from these sites but check the cost without the rebate (and check international shipping) to see if the deal is still worth while. Personally I'd stick to UK sites but it's up to the individual.

Never . . .
. . . buy contact lenses online if you have never had them before. Most opticians do free trials, they will fit them, ensure they are OK and show you how to take proper care of them as they can cause nasty infections if incorrectly handled. Once your trial is up you can switch to buying your own.

Always . . .
. . . buy named brands you recognise from legitimate sources, as with medicines online if a deal looks too good to be true it probably is. All the sites below are legitimate suppliers but again I would always go with a UK based site where possible for the piece of mind.

Did you know?
If you work with a computer monitor or screen for any significant length of time you are entitled to a free yearly eye test at your employers expense . . .
If your optometrist recommends more frequent eye tests the cost must be met by your employer . . .
If you require glasses for your work your employer must pay for the cost of a basic pair . . .

Ade's Top Choices . . .

Vision Direct
Vision Direct have everything you could need for eyes, they are the most complete site I've seen and although there site isn't as friendly and flash as many they still get my top rating.

They offer a full range of products from specs to contacts to sunglasses. They stock the solutions plus a range of accessories and even prescription swimming goggles.

Most important of all they are UK based and offer up to 70% off the high street prices.

Get Lenses
Get Lenses came a close second to Vision Direct, although their site is nicely laid out the range isn't as extensive.

The prices are a close match with Vision Direct and also based in the UK.
