Review of energy provider comparison sites

On this page I will be reviewing some of the energy comparison sites on the net, these can be a very useful way to reduce your running costs and doesn't necessarily mean switching!! I ran my utilities through the system for example using the compairandbuy site below, it came back with our current supplier as the cheapest, however the tariff it found was well over £100 cheaper!! There was no need to switch, just change tariffs.

Many many people stay with their gas and electricity suppliers simply because they believe it would be a lot of hassle to swap (in fact this is exactly what British Gas counted on for years), this couldn't be further from the truth however, you simply sign up online and the rest is done for you.

If you prefer to skip the comparison and just want a good reliable deal you can try Powergen who offer excellent rates for online customers or npower.

Door step comparisons
A word of warning about people who knock on your door offering to reduce your bills, these people are salesman who are paid by results and on the whole have the scruples of a dead badger! They are working for a single company and will lye and cheat to sell you their companies services, never sign up on the door step, if the deal sounds good take a number for the company, slam the door and call them yourself. You are better of looking into prices yourself using sites like these.

Compareandbuy.com is a site from Money Supermarket, definitely my top recommendation. The site is clear, concise and very easy to use, you do not have to go into too much details or register to compare your gas an electric, simply enter a few details and get prices back instantly.

uSwitch
uSwitch are probably the best known of these sites, the site is clear and easy enough to use. You need to put a little more info in than the Compairandbuy.com site but not a lot, most importantly they do not require you to part with any specific personal data to compare.

You can compare almost anything on uSwitch including Gas & electricity, Heating cover, Water, Mobile phones, Broadband, Home phones, Digital TV, Car insurance, Loans, Credit cards, Current accounts & Mortgages.

The rest . . .
Looking through the other sites that really is the lot, the rest seem to be imitations (ranging from good to not so good) of the big two. None improve on these sites and some are just quite poorly designed. Here are a range you may like to browse, I have ordered these in ascending order from best of the rest to worst.
